Frequently Asked Questions

Is L.A. Mart Design Center open to the public?

LAMDC is a trade building, however anyone interested in home furnishings may visit us to browse our Design Center showrooms. Showrooms do not sell directly to the public, so we encourage you to use your designer or one of our two consumer access programs, Buyer Services  or Designer Portfolios.

What does “to-the-trade” mean?

LAMDC showrooms sell only to trade professionals registered with the building. These include interior designers, decorators, architects, builders, specifiers and retail store owners.

Why is LAMDC merchandise only sold to “trade professionals?”

The process of interior design can often be a complex and overwhelming experience for homeowner. Unlike purchasing furniture at retail where consumers are offered limited customization options, sourcing products requiring precise specifications for made-to-order requires the knowledge and expertise of a trained professional. If an error is made in the order, it cannot be returned to the manufacturer. By using the talent and experience of a skilled designer who will help guide you through the selection process you will save time and money by preventing costly mistakes.

How is LAMDC different from a retail design store?

As a wholesale operation, LAMDC showrooms do not have staff or services to accommodate retail traffic. Our showrooms sell products that are custom ordered through design professionals that are tailored to the specific needs of their clients. Designers have longstanding professional relationships with individual showrooms and act as the retail liaison who purchases the product for their client.

How can I shop at L.A. Mart Design Center?

Clients are invited to accompany their designer to L.A. Mart Design Center at any time. If you are not currently working with a designer, LAMDC has two consumer access programs to allow you to shop in our showrooms. Both programs include the guidance and consultation of a design professional based upon your specific requirements.
